The Rules

Here’s the short of the situation: I have too many unread books. This needs to be remedied before I am allowed to buy new books. (If you want the long version, including how this backlog came to be, please buckle up and check it out.)

To get through my backlog I’ve made a list of my unread books, sorted by the date purchased, and will begin to read from oldest to newest. But, as my collection is a bit all over the place, I had to set some rules:

  1. My initial focus should be on standalone books which won’t require me to read (and most likely purchase) the other books of a trilogy/duology/saga.
  2. If I OWN an entire trilogy, I can break my “date purchased” rule to read them as a group.
  3. I have to give books a fair shot, but if something is just wretched I am allowed to walk away without finishing.
  4. Once done, I will write a review about the book and discuss what Dan of however-many-years-ago was thinking when he bought the book, and whether I should have read it years ago.

Addendum: I’ve tweaked things a bit – see The Non-List for the new arrangement.
