Looking Ahead #17

By Dan Cristelli

Wrapping up a series always feels good, if a little bittersweet. When you spend a prolonged period of time in a world it can be refreshing to explore something new, even if you (at first) find yourself wanting more stories from that other world.

Let’s jump in to the next look ahead where I’ll be updating you on the book I’m currently reading, and answering these questions about the next book on the list:

  1. Why did I buy this book?
  2. Why haven’t I read this book?
  3. How am I feeling about jumping in to this book?

Currently Reading: The End of All Things by John Scalzi.

My Progress: I believe I’m a lot closer to the end than I thought I was – the final story seems to be an alternate version of the first, so that will be a quicker read. I should be done soon.

Up Next: Since We Fell by Dennis Lehane, purchased on 7/3/2017

Why I Purchased This Book: I’m sure part of the reason was the price, but I’ve liked Lehane’s books in the past so it wouldn’t have taken a lot of coaxing.

Why I Haven’t Read This Book: For as much as I like Lehane’s work, it can be heavy. And I’m not always in the mood for heavy. So I’ve danced around this one for a long time, waiting for the right moment. I guess it’s now, huh?

How Am I Feeling About Reading This Book: A little hesitant, to be honest. There’s a better than average chance this book might be a smidge on the heavy side for life right now, but we’ll give it a shot.
