Looking Ahead #6

By Dan Cristelli

We are still early on in the year, but I’ve been pretty happy with my reading habits in 2021. I spend at least 30 minutes prior to bed reading, and I try to find a few minutes in the morning as I’m going through my pre-work routine.

Let’s jump in to the next look ahead where I’ll be updating you on the book I’m currently reading, and answering these questions about the next book on the list:

  1. Why did I buy this book?
  2. Why haven’t I read this book?
  3. How am I feeling about jumping in to this book?

Currently Reading: The Inner Movement by Brandt Legg

My Progress: This “book” is actually three books (Outview, Outin, and Outmove) in one volume. I’ve finished the first two books and am about a third of the way through the final book. It’s a quick read, so I should be done in the next few days.

Up Next: The Bible Repairman and Other Stories by Tim Powers, purchased on 4/21/2014.

Why I Purchased This Book: I’m happy to report that this will be the first book on The List where my reason isn’t “it was on sale”. I’ll be clear – when I purchased this book it WAS on sale, but I would have wound up with this one regardless as I have a soft spot for the author.

Tim Powers also wrote The Anubis Gates which is one of the first books I fell in love with as a young adult. A time travel fantasy novel with a slew of historic figures peppered throughout, The Anubis Gates is a book I’ve read a few times already and would love to revisit…someday. When The List is finished.

Why I Haven’t Read This Book: I jumped on the sale price, and thought I’d get a chance to read it once I had a break from book club. Oops.

How Am I Feeling About Reading This Book: Excited! Powers’ stories are always an interesting read. I’ve always found them to have interesting concepts, even if the execution isn’t always spot on.
